A short film about the North-Eastern town I grew up in, Darlington.

Featuring Jennifer Taylor, The Watson Kids, Cameron Hardy and Martin Maggiore, all influential people in the community that are fighting against the misrepresentation of this beautiful town in the contemporary British media.

My name is Kate Hardy, after moving to London from the small North-Eastern town, Darlington. I realised that you can be the biggest fish in the pond but the pond will always be bigger than you. Opportunities and dreams aren't many individuals realities if you are from the North-East. The rise in unemployment, pre-industrial hardship and low economic abandonment has left North-Easterners with no choice but to vote pro Brexit and to make those once dreams, not a reality. The lack of opportunity and dominance in the misrepresentation by the British media has left the North-Eastern towns in no hope but to carry on. 'This Town' is the voice for the 'butterflies' in the North-Eastern towns that are proud of their historic past, optimistic for their future and motivated for economic, political and cultural change of perception of those from the North-East. As a North-East girl at heart, 'This Town' is a positive portrayal and reinforcement to not only the wider public but to those butterflies that are still dreaming in 'This Town.'

"If you don't dream big,

You won't escape

I don't know when i'll leave

But this beautiful butterfly is the best they will ever see."
